The 150th year carries a special significance for India celebrating her 75th year of independence. On August 15th 1947, his 75th birthday, Sri Aurobindo conveyed a message to the nation, better known as the Five Dreams, for the future of India and the world and of a greater evolution and unity of humankind.
Sri Aurobindo's Fifth Dream recalls Auroville's future - The final dream was a step in evolution which would raise man to a higher and larger consciousness and begin the solution of the problems which have perplexed and vexed him since he first began to think and to dream of individual perfection and a perfect society.
The Mother joined Sri Aurobindo's work in 1914, initiating the publication of the ARYA journal which became the landing ground of all of Sri Aurobindo's major works. In 1920 she would return definitively by his side in Pondicherry, his spiritual partner in the journey of Consciousness and its realisation through life.
Continuing Sri Aurobindo's Work
After Sri Aurobindo's passing in 1950, the Mother continued his work. She started Auroville in 1968 to fulfil Sri Aurobindo's fifth dream of the evolution towards a perfect society and unity through a change of Consciousness.
On 15th August 2021, auroville organized a number of events to initiate a year long commemoration of Sri Aurobindo's 150th birth anniversary year.
